The choice of the future profession is personally and socially determinated and includes future specialist`s expectations for the chosen field of activity. Sometimes ill-founded and unreasoned choice of the profession, the distortion of its motivational component lead to difficulties in professional adaptation. The article presents the results of an empirical study of the features of the motivational sphere of students whose professional activity is related to the provision of assistance. The results of the study indicate that the dominant value orientations in a career for students of helper specialties are ?service the good?, «autonomy» and «integration of life styles». It turned out that students tend to be independent in their professional activities, to set the tasks by themselves and organize the work according to their needs. They have a desire to benefit others, help in solving life difficulties. They aim to organize their personal and professional life harmoniously, so that one sphere does not interfere with the other, but promote and support the implementation of intentions and satisfying their requirements. The results of the study show that the majority of study participants have adequate or high self-esteem. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was established that there is a connection between the level of self-assessment and certain career orientations. Future helpers with increasing level of self-esteem are able to manifest such personal qualities as ?extraversion?, ?attachment? and ?emotional stability? more clearly.
